Scrambling above Loch Shiel today

Although it was cloudy today, the cool Northerly winds kept the midges away while Amy and I scrambled up the NNE ridge of Meall a' Choire Chruinn on the South side of Loch Shiel.

To avoid the forestry track walk-in we took to the water and canoed down the loch from Glenfinnan.

Walkers on the Summit of Ben Nevis

Today on Ben Nevis there was rain and low cloud but it didn't stop the enthusiastic participants of a three peaks challenge.

Alpha Mountaineering were providing marshals for the British Heart Foundation event. Below are some summit photos.

Bouldering today near Torridon

With the longest day just upon us there is so much daylight to get out and enjoy the Scottish hills.

I've updated the website with a summer kit list so that you don't forget any of those important items whether you are walking, scrambling or climbing. Check it out on the updated Equipment Page

Hugh, Stuart and Andy navigating near Lundavra

Today I was out with Hugh, Stuart and Andy on the first day of their ML assessment. We looked at micro navigation, emergency carries and river crossings. It was very warm today but it looks like we could get cooler conditions later in the week.

Fionaven in Sutherland in April this year

Its just been revealed that Fionaven in the far north west of Scotland is not a munro. So for all those munro baggers there's still 'only' 284 to do. For the full story check out the Guardian News Article

The surveyers are now heading to Beinn Dearg in Torridon to see if that mountain merits Munro status.

Donald on a new problem at the Annat Boulders

Today like the last few days was hot again in the North West with sea mist in the North and East. Yesterday Donald and I went bouldering near Torridon. It was almost too hot to boulder but a South Easterly breeze kept the midges away and the temperatures bearable.

John on Nasal Abuse

Today in Torridon it was really hot and sunny. Up at Seana Mheallan West Donald and I had a great day ticking routes and getting sunburnt!

John, Jonathan and Steve were also out enjoying the great Torridonian sandstone.

Views South East across Loch Torridon

Another beautiful day in the Highlands of Scotland. Mike and I went rock climbing at Diabaig. This venue has excellent gneiss crags which are quick to dry and with short walk-ins.

With a slight breeze and bright sunshine the midges stayed away. It looks like the settled weather will hold for a few more days and the North West Highlands will probably have the best of the sunshine.

Rich bouldering at Pinnacle Crag

Amy, Rich and I had a great wee climb at Duntelchaig this evening. There was enough of a breeze to keep the midges away and things had dried out after the wet weekend.

With high pressure dominating it looks like June could start well with some sunshine and warm temperatures especially in the west of Scotland.

Thanks to Rich for the use of his photos.
